During a special city council meeting on Monday night, Moose Jaw's newest city council was officially sworn in.

The meeting was opened by city clerk Tracy Wittke and started with James Murdock taking the oath of office to become the city's 42nd mayor. He was presented the Chain of Office by city manager Maryse Carmichael.

The six city councillors were then sworn in by taking the oath of office. The mayor and councillors were sworn in by Judge Brian Hendrickson.

Jamey Logan, Dawn Luhning, and Heather Eby were successful in their re-election bids and were sworn into their next terms on council. Meanwhile, after taking some time away from the table, former councillors Chris Warren and Patrick Boyle will be returning to city council. Carla Delaurier also took the oath of office for her very first term on council.

Following the oath of office, Wittke turned the meeting over to Murdock to preside over his first city council meeting.

The first order of business was a smudging ceremony conducted by knowledge keeper Rodger Ross, before Murdock gave his inaugural address.

Logan was then appointed as the deputy mayor, Boyle was appointed executive committee chair, and Warren was appointed the personnel committee chair.

They wrapped up the meeting by officially adopting the results of the 2024 municipal and school board elections.

The next city council meeting is scheduled for Nov. 25, with a special council meeting scheduled for Nov. 27 at 3 p.m. to begin budget talks.
