Southwest Saskatchewan has been bombarded with snow this morning.
By 5 a.m. a total of five centimetres had already fallen in Swift Current, with double that forecasted for the remainder of the day by Environment and Climate Change Canada.
Meteorologist for ECCC, Dan Fulton, was surprised by just how much snow fell considering the system that delivered it only just formed the night before.
"There was a system in Alberta earlier, but this snow developed right over the middle of Saskatchewan," said Fulton. "It's going to interact with another system that's approaching Manitoba right now. A little bit of a complicated setup there this morning."
Along with the snow today, strong winds are expected to create blowing snow all across the southwestern prairies.
Travellers are being advised to delay their trips if possible, especially if heading east.
"If you're going West, you're probably okay," ventured Fulton. "Things definitely get worse as you move into the eastern part of the province."
The rest of the week should be calm, until Friday when the snow is expected to resume. Saturday is also expected to contain more snowy conditions.
