Break-ins, a suspicious fire, and dramatic arrests kept Estevan police busy over the past few days.
The Estevan Police Service responded to several calls over the weekend, including incidents involving uttering threats, mischief to property, and traffic complaints.
On Friday evening, a 30-year-old Regina man was arrested and charged with impaired driving and operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol content over 80 mg%. He was issued an indefinite driving suspension, and his company vehicle was impounded for 30 days. He is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
On Saturday morning, a 25-year-old Estevan man was arrested and charged with break and enter at a residence, as well as mischief. He was released on conditions and will appear in Estevan provincial court at a later date.
On Monday, police responded to a report of attempted vehicle entry at a central Estevan residence. The vehicle sustained minor damage as a result, and the incident remains under investigation.
Officers also conducted a wellness check on a 43-year-old woman after receiving reports of concerning comments she made to a friend. Police confirmed the woman was in good health and had no thoughts of self-harm.
Later, police were called to an apartment complex in central Estevan after reports of an unknown man banging on a resident’s door. Officers found a 22-year-old man who was grossly intoxicated and uncooperative. He was arrested for being intoxicated in public and later resisted arrest and obstructed police efforts to identify him. He was lodged in cells until sober and is facing charges of resisting arrest and obstruction.
During the night shift, police and Estevan Fire & Rescue responded to a fire in an outbuilding on the 1300 block of 7th Street. The fire is being treated as suspicious, and the investigation is ongoing.
