The Estevan Bruins’ annual Teddy Bear Toss is set to take place on Saturday, November 23rd, during their home game against the Battlefords North Stars. This beloved event brings the community together for a great cause, with fans tossing teddy bears onto the ice after the Bruins score their first goal of the game. All donated bears will be collected and distributed to seniors in various care facilities across the Southeast.

Ronza Reynard, Community Ministries Director for the Salvation Army, shared that the teddy bears will be given to seniors in homes across Estevan, Lampman, Oxbow, Carnduff, and Perryville. “We go to quite a few places, including Hillview Manor, Creighton Lodge, and the long-term care nursing homes,” Reynard said.

While fans are encouraged to bring their own teddy bears, there will also be bears available for purchase at the game. The donation is not just about the teddy bears; it’s about bringing Christmas cheer to those who may not have many visitors during the holiday season.

Reynard explained the significance of the event, highlighting the emotional impact it has on the seniors. "Last year, we didn’t have enough teddy bears, and it really bothered the seniors. Many of them asked, 'Did we not get a teddy bear this year?' You don’t realize how much something so simple means until you see their reactions,” Reynard said.

This event has become a heartwarming tradition, where volunteers also bring along small gifts like Christmas cards, lotion, and tissues to add to the festive spirit. Reynard emphasized that the goal is not just to give teddy bears but to connect with the seniors, making their holiday season a little brighter. “We go to visit them and bring Christmas cheer, as sometimes they don’t have the opportunity to see many people this time of year,” Reynard explained.

The Salvation Army team will be visiting nearly 300 seniors in the area, and they are hopeful for another successful teddy bear drive.

For those who may not be able to attend the game, there’s still an opportunity to contribute. “If someone wants to drop off a bear at the store and let us know it's for the seniors, we’ll make sure it gets to the right place,” Reynard said.

The event promises to bring the community together for a great cause. Fans are encouraged to come early, join the excitement, and support the Bruins while making a difference in the lives of local seniors.

“Go Bruins go!” Reynard added with enthusiasm.

The annual Teddy Bear Toss is a wonderful way to spread joy and share the spirit of the season with those who need it most.
