the Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Public Safety, Democratic Institutions and Intergovernmental Affairs announced this week that the federal government is investing $20.5 million in Saskatchewan to address gun violence through the Gun and Gang Violence Action Fund.

The funding aims to support community organizations and law enforcement in reducing gun crime and improving public safety.

This initiative builds on the federal government's 2017 Initiative to Take Action Against Gun and Gang Violence (ITAAGGV), which provided funding to provinces and territories for targeted anti-violence measures. Through ITAAGGV, the Government of Canada also supported the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) in curbing gun smuggling, including firearms seizures at Canada’s borders.

The federal government considers ITAAGGV a key pillar of its broader crime prevention strategy. Measures include investments in border security, enhanced cooperation with the United States to combat gun trafficking, changes to strengthen firearms legislation further, and increased support for prevention and enforcement efforts.
