The Town of Ponoka’s Waste Transfer Station has been honoured with the Alberta Recycling Management Authority (ARMA) 2024 Collection Site Award of Excellence.

Town staff received the award at an Alberta CARE Recycling Conference in Bonnyville.

Sandra Lund, Town of Ponoka Chief Administrative Officer said the award is well-deserved.

“The town is committed to operational and service excellence, which includes our waste management practices where much of the focus is on reducing the amount of waste sent to landfills,” Lund said.

Initiatives to reduce landfill waste include the town's curbside waste collection of recyclable and compostable waste programs.

Year-round programs are also offered at the Waste Transfer Station, such as the Used Oil Collection Program, the Household Hazardous Waste Program, and the E-Waste Electronics Recycling Program.

Alberta Recycling annually recognizes municipal collection sites that display excellence in managing electronics, paint, tire, and/or used oil materials collection sites, meet all program requirements, and make recycling convenient and safe for residents.

The town’s Waste Transfer Station is located northeast of the corporate limits on 46 Street in Ponoka County on Township Road 431A.
