The first goal of Friday night’s Estevan Bruins game scored more than just points, as the community came together for the annual Teddy Bear Toss in support of the Salvation Army.

The event brought in 328 stuffed animals and raised $1,080 for the food bank. The teddy bears will be distributed to seniors in care facilities in Estevan, Lampman, Carnduff, Gainsborough, and Oxbow.

Ronza Reynard, community ministries director with the Estevan Salvation Army, said the initiative provides an opportunity to visit seniors, many of whom may not receive visitors during the holiday season. “This initiative provides an opportunity to visit seniors, many of whom may not receive visitors during the holiday season. It’s a chance to let them know they’re not forgotten and bring a little joy to their day,” Reynard said.

In addition to the teddy bears, seniors will receive Christmas cards, calendars, and other small gifts.

The funds raised will help supply fresh fruits, vegetables, and dairy for the food bank. Reynard said the community’s contributions made the event both meaningful and enjoyable.
