The snow cleaning is moving along in Swift Current, with the City of Swift Current working to keep ahead of any additional snow.
Currently, Swift Current has two shifts of crews operating both night and day. The split of personnel means that they are much less visible during the day, as more members are working at night.
Greg Parsons, general manager of infrastructure and operations for the City of Swift Current, is happy with the progress they have made on the priority maps.
"We can only do so much in a short period of time, so we need to just keep plugging away," said Parsons.
The way the snow removal works in Swift Current is plows and graders push the now into windrows down the centre of a street. Blower trucks come and, like a giant snowblower, blast the snow into transport trucks which take the snow to a drop site.
Last night, crews worked to clear the Second Avenue Southeast Overpass. That particular road is only possible to work on at night when traffic is at a bare minimum.
"We'll just keep moving through the priority sequence as we can," said Parsons. " I'm guessing sort of by the end of the week, you'll see significant improvements."
The exact timeline for completion is always left a little vague. Snowfall amounts differ from weather event to weather event, meaning that times will inevitably vary. There is also the question of daytime delays and other factors like street parking, equipment exceptions, and other unpredictables.
