The southeast is about to deal with more snow as a system is about to pass through and leave some more snow in the area.

That's expected to last both today and tomorrow, dropping around 2 to 4 centimetres.

Unlike the weekend's storms, which dropped a good amount of snow and brought heavy wind, Environment Canada Meteorologist Danielle Desjardins says that this one will be softer.

"It will be more of a calm system, so we're expecting winds to pick up from the east up to 20 kilometres an hour. So there will be a little bit of wind, but not too strong."

Winds will pick up a bit as the system ends on Wednesday though the snow will lighten up around that point.

"Expecting a little bit of lingering light snow on Wednesday, winds will flip to the northwest, 20 to 30 kilometres an hour," said Desjardins. "But yeah, not expecting too much more to accumulate on Wednesday."

Desjardins says after the snow passes through the area it's being followed by a drop in temperatures that will put those well below average.

"We're seeing after the system tracks through a ridge of high pressure moving into the region, bringing some cold arctic air to southern Saskatchewan. So temperatures looking to dip down to the -30° range."

"Fortunately, not a lot of winds with that, so wind chill values, you know, if you get a little bit of a gust could push those values into the mid minus 30s, but fortunately not a lot of wind with that. So not expecting the wind chill to increase that much.

While colder than any other temperature so far this season, it'll still be around 10 degrees off from any emergency criteria for cold.

Sometime near the end or after the weekend Desjardins says we'll see a return to warmer weather which will still be below average.

"There is a little bit of model discrepancy when that little bit of warmer air is coming in. So it looks like either Sunday or Monday, but by early next week, that's a little bit of warmer air into the region, so looking for temperatures to abate a little."
