Locals from Carievale were able to get a taste of Christmas as the village held its annual Christmas Tree Lighting last week.

On Thursday, locals gathered to celebrate the lighting, joined by the Argyle Fire Department and Carievale RCMP.

Jared Phair, Fire Captain for the Argyle Fire Department, talks about all the work that the "elves" did for the event.

"So we got asked to attend, they did kid's activities in the hall and then the fire department showed up with the elves handing out Christmas treats."

With just a spot of wind, the conditions were well suited to watch the Christmas tree lighting.

After being asked to help out with handing out treats, Phair says he's hoping to keep the tradition going in the future.

"So we did it last year and other years we did it where Santa was on the fire truck and we drove around, last year we did it when they did the Christmas tree lighting as well.
