The Estevan Salvation Army is gearing up for its annual Christmas Kettle Campaign, aiming to provide vital support to the community during the holiday season. Kettles will be stationed at key locations throughout the city, including Southern Plains Co-op, No Frills, and Walmart, starting December 2 and running until Christmas Eve.
Ronza Reynard, community ministries director for the Estevan Salvation Army, shared details about the upcoming kettle campaign:
“We'll have a kettle at the Southern Plains Co-op starting December 2 and running until the 24th, Monday through Saturday,” Reynard said. “We'll also be at No Frills with the same schedule, and then we'll pick up at Walmart from December 16 to 24.”
Volunteers are still needed to help with kettle shifts, and Reynard encouraged people to get involved.
“We still have some openings. Anyone interested can call us at 634-2074, and we’ll find a spot that works for them,” she added.
The Salvation Army has had a busy week of fundraising events, including Blow Away Hunger, the Teddy Bear Toss, and the Tim Hortons Smile Cookie campaign. While totals from the Smile Cookie campaign aren’t yet available, Reynard is optimistic about the community’s support.
“Every year, the community really rallies behind us, no matter what’s happening in the economy. People see the value in what the Salvation Army does, and they want to help out in some way,” Reynard said.
The Salvation Army’s impact extends beyond Christmas, as it provides year-round assistance to individuals and families in need. As the kettle campaign begins, Reynard expressed gratitude for the continued support.
“The community sees the need in Estevan, and they know we’re one of the many groups working hard to make a difference year-round. It feels good to see that level of engagement and giving,” Reynard said.
The ongoing Canada Post strike has caused some disruption to mail donations, but its full impact won’t be clear until mid-December. Those wishing to donate are encouraged to drop off their donations in person at the Salvation Army office or contribute monetary donations directly.
With the busy season ahead, the Salvation Army is grateful for every donation, whether time or funds, and hopes Estevan’s spirit of giving continues to shine throughout the holiday season.
