Each year, the St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation spreads festive cheer to local care homes with its Festival of Trees Christmas Tea Parties.
Lori Gervais, executive director of the foundation, said, "We started delivering our tea parties to the care homes during the first year of COVID, and it turned out to be a much better situation for the residents. Transporting everyone to the event site was challenging for those who needed extra services. Bringing the tea parties to them made all the difference."
With long-time sponsor Sun Country Hearing, the tea parties have grown each year, offering not only delicious treats but also entertainment and a festive atmosphere. Gervais and her team visit care homes, including Diversified Services, bringing joy and holiday cheer directly to residents.
"People are starting to look forward to these events every year," Gervais said. "The staff tells us that the residents really enjoy it, especially the music. When Jason pulls out his accordion, the residents just light up with joy."
The tea parties are more than just a social event. Local businesses generously contribute items for gift bags that are given to each resident, ensuring everyone receives a thoughtful holiday gift.
"It's wonderful to see the community come together to make these events so special," Gervais added. "The support from local businesses and volunteers helps us continue bringing smiles to the faces of the residents each year."
