Some melt could be seen next week as temperatures will be well above average in the southeast.

Temperatures are currently very chilly in the southeast, though the forecast is showing a flip from extreme cold to a bit of unseasonable heat.

Temperatures are likely to reach the positive next week as the current cold weather regime comes crashing down over the weekend.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Christy Climenhaga says that will last through the middle of the week.

"It looks like we're doing a bit of a flip-flop from this week. Of course, where we are seeing temperatures, you know, 10 or so degrees below normal to above normal. You know some milder weather moving in, especially into your late Monday into Tuesday and Wednesday and staying on that kind of milder trend as we head into the end of the week too."

Occasional precipitation will continue into next week though it may take a different form from the snow we've seen so far.

"With next week's milder weather, we could even see some messier precipitation again," said Climenhaga. "Still a little bit uncertain on exactly when and how much you'll see, but something to keep in mind. A little bit of wet weather and you could even see maybe even some freezing rain in the region."

For drivers, the warmer weather may not be ideal as any melting and refreezing will lead to slippery roads.

"Into next week, it's definitely something to think about. It looks like your overnight lows will still maybe stay below the freezing mark except for Wednesday night. That's going to be the one we're watching, said Climenhaga. "Again, some of the models are putting the timing a little bit different, but yeah, into Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, likely seeing maybe a little bit of melting there and it could be a little bit slick at this point."

With the weather expected to swing so drastically, Climenhaga reminds people to keep an eye on forecasts before heading out.

"With all sorts of weather in the forecast, it's always important to remember to check in and see what's going on because, you know, tomorrow's weather might not be the story for the next day. When we're dealing with the cold tonight and tomorrow morning, just always that reminder to dress for it. If you're looking at wind chills in the mid-minus 30s, which is kind of what we're expecting. You can get frost anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes so you wanna make sure you're bundled up appropriately, and then, you know, have the other side of the layers for next week where it's a little bit milder."
