The Portage Terriers wrapped up their home and home series with the Waywayseecappo Wolverines Saturday night with a 4-2 victory on the road.

Slow starts had been plaguing the Terriers this season but that wasn’t the case against the Wolverines. Nolan Nenow opened the scoring for Portage in the first five minutes depositing a rebound past Waywayseecappo goalie Mariko Bercier on the power play.

Halfway through the period it looked like a scene from a video game as Adler Johnston was checked up against the boards and the glass shattered. After the 20 minute delay, play resumed and stayed 1-0 Portage into the intermission.

The Terriers looked strong in the second period scoring a pair of goals. Koy Funk fired home a rebound from the mid slot, and Will McKay tapped in a rebound on the power play. For McKay, he now has goals in two straight games.

Before the period was out, Sebastien Hicks scored a shorthanded breakaway goal to end Mitchell Kathler’s shutout bid. 3-1 Portage after 2.

In the third period the Wolverines started to claw back; Dru Mushumanski fired a loose puck upstairs to draw to within one.

The Terriers would play solid hockey the rest of the way and Decker Mujcin scored his team leading 15th goal into the empty net to end the game. Portage outshot Waywayseecappo 28-18.

The Terriers are back in action on Wednesday when they will host the Neepawa Titans. The Portage Terrier Ag expo will be held before the game from 4-7:30pm in the Stride Place Multi Purpose room.
