The Estevan Police Service (EPS) was busy over the weekend responding to a variety of incidents, including a hit-and-run collision, disturbances at local apartment buildings, reports of fraud, and several alcohol-related offenses and public intoxication arrests.

On Friday, an Ontario woman was charged with several traffic and safety-related offenses after failing to remain at the scene of a collision. The investigation identified the driver, who later turned herself in when contacted. It was also determined that she had an expired driver’s license and vehicle registration at the time of the collision. No injuries were reported.

EPS is investigating a report of fraud after a complainant purchased a trailer online but has not received the item. The matter remains under investigation. A report of a break and enter on Valley Street is also under investigation.

Members responded to a complaint about a diesel truck idling for an extended period in a residential area. Officers attended and advised the owner of the bylaw prohibiting diesel vehicles from idling for more than 15 minutes in residential areas.

EPS responded to a disturbance at a residence. Upon arrival, an Estevan man was arrested for causing a disturbance and lodged in cells until sober.

The following day, a hit-and-run collision was reported on the southeast side of the Leisure Centre, near the Power Dodge Ice Centre entrance. Police are investigating and reviewing available video footage to identify the suspect vehicle.

Officers later responded to a report of an erratic driver near the intersection of Kensington Avenue and King Street. The caller provided the license plate number, and the matter remains under investigation.

Police attended a south-end apartment building for a disturbance in the early evening. The situation was resolved through mediation. EPS was called to the same apartment later that evening for a second disturbance. During this incident, an Estevan man was arrested for assaulting a police officer. He was lodged in cells until sober and later released on the charge.

In an unrelated incident, police responded to a disturbance at an apartment building in the northeast end of the city. The subject of the complaint was found to be yelling on the phone, disturbing other tenants. He was cautioned to be quieter in the future.

A busy Saturday night for the police included dealing with an unruly 22-year-old Estevan man at a local liquor establishment. He was spoken to by officers and sent home for the evening. That same night, police responded to a disturbance between two patrons at a local liquor establishment, which escalated into a physical altercation. Officers arrived, separated the two women involved, and escorted them off the property. Charges are pending statements from both parties.

A 44-year-old intoxicated male from Regina attended the front counter at EPS. Due to his level of inebriation, he was unaware of which city he was in. He was arrested for public intoxication and lodged in cells for his safety, to be released when sober.

Early Sunday morning, police responded to a disturbance at a local business. Upon arrival, a 61-year-old Estevan man was arrested for being intoxicated in public. He was lodged in cells to be released when sober.

Later on Sunday, EPS found a stop sign that had been knocked over by a vehicle at the intersection of Sister Roddy Road and Wellock Road. The vehicle left the scene and did not report the damage. Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact EPS at (306) 634-4767.

Police are investigating a report of an assault. The investigation is in the early stages, and no injuries have been reported.

EPS also responded to a collision at the intersection of King Street and Petterson Drive. A vehicle slid through the intersection and collided with a power/control box on the boulevard. The impact caused enough damage to the box that it affected the traffic lights, causing them to stay in flashing red light mode for all directions. The vehicle was located several blocks south of the intersection. The male driver was issued a three-day driver’s license suspension due to alcohol consumption. He was also charged with driving without due care and attention, and the vehicle was towed from the scene.

Police responded to a Report Impaired Driver (RID) complaint regarding a vehicle approaching the city on the highway. The driver was found to be unimpaired but was not accustomed to driving in winter conditions.
