A local woman is grateful after an Estevan Police Service member helped to get their lost wallet back to them earlier this week.
Kaye Humes was shopping earlier this week with her sister, and after being dropped off back home soon had a knock at the door.
She talks about getting back her property from EPS officer Cst. Katelynn Ruthven.
" I put away my things and had some lunch and was sitting here knitting when the knock came on the door and when I opened it, it was a young Estevan policewoman named Katie, who held out my wallet and said 'Is this yours?' I apparently had dropped it when I was getting into the car. Some lady found it and decided to take it to the police. I thought, boy, there are honest people around and I'm so grateful."
Ruthven says she was able to get that wallet back thanks to some help from a local community member.
"A female came into the station when I was working day shifts and indicated that she found a wallet in the Sobey’s parking lot. She tried to give it to the staff at Sobey’s and they weren’t sure what to do with it so she brought it to the station so we could locate the owner. I checked the card information and found her home address. I attended to her residence where I returned her wallet."
"I’m happy that we were able to track her down. She was obviously very happy to get her wallet back and it's nice to be able to be a part of that."
If anyone does lose their wallet, Ruthven says they should stop by the station to tell the EPS what they're missing so they can keep an eye out.
She also recommends re-tracing your steps and returning to wherever you were before you lost your card.
