Estevan Police were kept on their toes over the weekend, responding to a variety of incidents that included false alarms, impaired driving reports, disturbances outside local bars, and even a suspicious vehicle on the move. From well-being checks to mischief and breaches of court orders, officers had their hands full handling 47 occurrences between Dec. 6 and Dec. 8, 2024.
On December 6, 2024The Estevan Police Service (EPS) received a report from a security company about a hold-up alarm at a business in Estevan. Police were dispatched, but the security company advised that the alarm was false before officers arrived on scene.
EPS responded to a Report Impaired Driver (RID) call regarding a vehicle approaching Estevan on Highway 18. The vehicle was reported to be swerving across the road. Police attended the area but were unable to locate the vehicle, as no license plate information was provided.
A local business requested assistance with an individual outside their premises attempting to solicit money from customers. Police attended, advised the individual that panhandling was unlawful, and sent them on their way.
EPS responded to a request for a wellness check in the Pleasantdale area. The individual was not answering the door or phone calls. Officers located the individual, who was in good health, and reminded them to answer the door and calls in the future to minimize police resources.
During a traffic stop in the 300 block of 5th Avenue, a 41-year-old female passenger was arrested for breaching the conditions of her release order. She was charged for failing to comply with release order conditions and was released.
Police intervened in a fight near Gibby’s Bar, where three males were spoken to. A male in his twenties was advised about his behaviour and intoxication levels, and was sent home with a sober friend.
The next day a 37-year-old female was arrested in Prince Albert on EPS warrants for assaulting a police officer (x2), uttering threats, assault with a weapon, and failing to attend court in Estevan. She was remanded in custody to appear in Estevan Provincial Court on December 9, 2024.
Police investigated a suspicious truck on the 500 block of 2nd Street. While speaking with one of the individuals involved, occupants of another vehicle arrived and alleged that a 27-year-old male had chased their vehicle and struck it with his shoulder prior to police arrival. The male was detained as part of the investigation but was released at the complainant’s request.
EPS were notified about a male who threw a beer bottle through the back window of a vehicle parked outside a downtown bar. A suspect has been identified, and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact EPS at (306) 634-4767. In a separate incident, police investigated a report of mischief at a local bar when a heavily intoxicated 28-year-old male smashed a beer bottle on the sidewalk. The male was arrested for being intoxicated in public and lodged in EPS cells until sober.
On December 8, 2024 police responded to a report of a fail-to-remain collision in the Walmart parking lot. EPS is seeking information about the incident, which remains under investigation.
EPS received a report of a scam in which an individual attempted to purchase an item online after placing a deposit but was unable to contact the seller. EPS reminds the public to exercise caution when making online purchases and to verify that sellers are legitimate and reputable.
A call came from the east end, where two trucks were reported to be driving erratically in icy conditions. Both vehicles were located, and the drivers were charged with stunting in a parking lot under the Traffic Safety Act.
Police were called to a suspicious male loitering near a downtown business. The individual was located and determined to be window shopping while waiting for his laundry to finish.
A 38-year-old female was arrested and lodged in cells for breaching the curfew of her Conditional Sentence Order. She is set to appear in Provincial Court at a later date to address the allegation.
