A fire destroyed a home in Macoun last night, with crews battling the blaze until 10 a.m. this morning.
“We arrived on scene, and the garage was fully engulfed; it had already spread to the ceiling,” said Laverne Hockey, Fire Chief for Midale. “The house was attached, and we started putting water on it to contain the fire. We called Estevan for mutual aid, and they came out and gave us a hand, which was awesome.”
Despite the quick spread, no injuries were reported, and everyone made it out safely.
Crews faced challenges in battling the blaze, including difficulties accessing water to keep the pumpers supplied. "Our biggest issue was finding water and keeping the pumpers supplied,” said Hockey. “We weren’t able to save much since the fire spread into the basement, and with the wood basement, all the floor joists burnt out.”
The structure was deemed unsafe to enter due to the extensive damage, including the roof, which was covered in tin, making it harder to control the fire.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
