With ice-covered roads being reported across the province and a number of highways reporting treacherous conditions, SGI is giving tips on how to keep safe on the road.
Spokesperson Michaela Solomon talks about the conditions and what people can do to make sure they're travelling safely.
"The one thing I'll mention just as the week kind of kicks off is if you are heading out on the highway, check the highway hotline. It's an absolutely fantastic resource that updates in real-time, as you can see if there is a highway closure near you or you're running into a road where travel is not recommended."
People can also check out the Highway Hotline on Discover Estevan.
Solomon says that conditions can also quickly change when moving between areas so keeping an eye on conditions is important.
I think the important thing too is that when you head out of the city, the highway you're heading out on might be fine, but there might be a road on your travels that is not recommended or maybe icier than the road you've been travelling on so far. So take the time to really check that resource and see what kind of conditions you're heading into when you head out."
"Take extra care at intersections and drive for the changing road conditions. So when it is icier like what we're seeing today and yesterday, you know, reduce your speed, increase your following distance, and make sure you're not distracted behind the wheel. That will really help ensure you can, you know, come to a safe and controlled stop when conditions are a little slick."
People should also make sure their cars are clear of any snow or ice themselves before heading onto the road.
"If there is snowfall happening in your area, be sure to take the time to remove all the snow and ice from your car's windows, lights, hood, and roof for your best visibility and give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination. So if that means leaving for work a little earlier, I know easier said than done, but it will certainly serve you well when you're on icy roads."
