With winter settled into the southeast, some outdoor ice-skating attractions will soon open up to the public in Estevan.
Crews are currently working to get those opened up in the community, with a lot of work going into those.
Shannon Wanner, the city's parks manager, talks about when those will be opening for some areas.
"Rusty Duce and Westview will be opening on Friday, December 13th.
"Our guys are busy flooding them and getting them ready and removing the snow."
Those should remain open for most of the winter, though Wanner talks about a couple of scenarios people should watch for.
"They'll be temporarily closed if they're being flooded, or if it gets too warm and the ice gets too soft or if there's too much snow on them."
Wanner says that the incoming minus one forecast for the weekend should keep the surfaces frozen, but any warmer than that and it'll likely be shut down.
People will also be able to use some of the warm-up shacks at the parks, though some will take a bit longer to be opened.
"The warm-up shacks will be open from 9:00 AM to 9:30 PM seven days a week, Hillside or the Kinsman Park is not open yet, they are still flooding the ice, but it should be operational by Christmas. They're kind of use at your own risk. They do have rules, so please adhere to them, posted on all the doors."
Those shacks will be closed early on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, but they will be open at normal hours on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
