With the hockey community in Estevan hoping to get another ice surface, other communities are stepping forward to possibly host Estevan teams and free up ice times.
The Midale Harry O. Memorial Arena is one of those locations, with the arena recently sending off a letter to the Estevan City Council regarding its potential use for the community.
In their release, they point out multiple upgrades made recently which could make for a better environment for incoming players, such as a new Zamboni, updated change rooms, and new flooring.
After reading off the letter and opening the floor to the council, councillor Brian Johnson says he'd like to see some more information on how much pressure the Midale arena could help relieve for the area.
"I'd like to know basically how many clubs, what age groups, how many hockey players, young people are going over to Midale and using their facility. I'd like to know how many people are from Estevan and basically, if we can get that information from the Midale Scheduler so that it will help us make decisions in the future."
Johnson says he'd also like to get similar information from Bienfait's arena for future consideration.
Mayor Anthony Sernick then chimed in, stating that the help these communities bring is very important for Estevan's hockey scene.
"I can't remember the number of people right here, I do remember the number, just of Estevan Minor Hockey spends on other town facilities, not just Midale, but all of them. It was well over $100,000. That's definitely been spread around there's no doubt about it."
