The Eagle Sky Estevan Bruins played a split weekend as they won one game and lost another against their Viterra Division rivals the Melville Millionaires.
In the first game at home on Friday, Melville came out strong, taking the first goal with the Bruins quickly responding with a goal. In the second, the Millionaires took the edge with another goal leading to a 2-1 lead headed into the third.
There, the Bruins took control of the game and scored four goals over the period compared to the Millionaire's single goal, ending that 5-3.
The second game in Melville on Saturday had the Bruins unable to pierce the Millionaire's defences, with the other team scoring a goal each in the first and second periods to hand the Bruins a 2-0 loss.
Head Coach Jason Tatarnic talks about their performances on the weekend and what went right and wrong.
"I thought at home the second and third periods were really good for us and even in the 1st we had some shot opportunities. We didn't get any shots on that record but, you know, we had some chances, just couldn't find the net at all. I thought the guys played really well in the third period to get the win and I thought we worked hard and did some things very well."
Tatarnic says that all of the teams are fighting hard to secure a playoff spot, with a tight race unfolding over this season.
He says that there are always opportunities for the Bruins to take another game.
"It's a real tight game. Both teams were playing really well defensively and they got the go-ahead goal there, but we had opportunities to take the lead or have the lead or tie the game. You know, we missed 3 breakaways in that game, it's tough to swallow when it's such a tight game."
The Bruins now face the Humboldt Broncos this weekend for a pair of games at Affinity Place.
