As 2024 draws to an end, the town of Bruno has reflected on its accomplishments, celebrating strong community spirit and continued growth in recreational and civic projects. With the leadership of the town council and the dedication of local volunteers, the town has seen numerous events and developments that brought residents together and strengthened its services.

Councillor Debbie Kramer expressed pride in the town's continued initiatives. "We have enjoyed continued strong support and collaboration with our Volunteer Rink Committee and great usage of the facility. And we've even been able to help out some surrounding towns with ice rental," she shared. This partnership helped maximize the use of the rink and contributed to a sense of unity among neighboring communities.

Sports and recreation remained a key focus for the town throughout the year. One highlight was the growth of the town's archery program, which is run in conjunction with the Bruno Wildlife Federation. "We have a junior Olympic program, and we have 35 new archers that are participating," said Kramer.

In addition, the Bruno Golf and Country Club had an active year, focusing on refurbishing the greens and enhancing the 9-hole course. The club hosted a variety of events, including Ladies Wine and Nine Night Golf, Polar Bear Golf, Junior Night Golf, and regular league nights.

The annual Sports Day in Bruno, a beloved tradition, showcased Bruno Minor Ball this year, attracting families and community members of all ages. "It’s guaranteed to bring out the Grammys and the grandpas and the aunties and the uncles," said Kramer, highlighting the family-oriented atmosphere of the event. The addition of adult teams made the event even more inclusive, bringing together residents of all ages for a day of fun and competition.

The town also saw significant infrastructure improvements, including the completion of a new emergency services building in collaboration with the RM of Bayne No. 371. The grand opening on June 25th marked a major milestone for the community, with Kramer noting, "We had so many people working together to bring this project to completion."

One of the biggest events in 2024 was the Bruno Cherry Sunday, held on August 11th. The event, which celebrates the town's cherry-growing heritage, attracted many visitors who enjoyed a day filled with local food, entertainment, and community spirit. Kramer remarked, "The businesses who participate in the Cherry-themed decorating contest really brighten up Main Street," adding that the event's success was a testament to the town's collaborative spirit.

The Bruno Show and Shine also celebrated its 18th year in 2024, attracting over 900 visitors at the end of July. This annual event featured a spectacular car show and vintage tractor pulls.

In addition to these major events, Bruno continued to be a hub of volunteer-driven activities. Kramer expressed her gratitude for the individuals and groups who keep the town’s programs running smoothly. "It's amazing when you think about the time and effort that is put into it," she said. She took a moment to recognize the many volunteers, from sports teams to the school, the Recreation Board, the Library Board, and the Bruno Lions Club.

Looking ahead, Councillor Kramer concluded with heartfelt wishes from the community. "On behalf of the town and staff, I'd like to wish everyone a happy holiday season with your family and friends," she said, expressing her gratitude for another successful year.

As Bruno moves into 2025, the community can look back on a year full of collaboration, growth, and celebration, with many exciting opportunities on the horizon.
