The Humboldt Lions Club has had a busy and successful year in 2024, making significant contributions to the local community. From volunteering at various events to fundraising for important causes, the Lions Club has truly committed itself to service for the residents of Humboldt.
Brian Grest, president of the Humboldt Lions Club, shared highlights of the year’s activities, emphasizing the group's commitment to serving others.
“We’ve been very active this year. We volunteered at the PBR Rodeo and the Living Skies Music Festival, helped with bartending, and offered safe rides for people. We also participated in parades, helped run BBQs, and organized a 50/50 draw,” said Grest.
One of the Lions Club's most notable accomplishments was their annual Festival of Frights, which had a record turnout this year.
"The response we received was just amazing. This year’s Festival of Frights really took off," Grest said. The event, which is known for its fun and spooky atmosphere, has become a hallmark of the Lions’ community outreach.
In addition to their community events, the Lions Club worked on other charitable projects, including collecting donated eyeglasses for third-world countries.
"We also have donation boxes out for eyeglasses, which are sent to those in need overseas," Grest explained.
While the Lions Club handled much of the Festival of Frights themselves, Grest was quick to acknowledge the help they received.
"We couldn't have done it without the community’s support. There was a group of local actors who really stepped up and made the event even more special," he said.
The Lions Club also made significant strides in growing their membership. "Our membership is very strong, and we're still looking for more members," said Grest. "We have a great core of people who are very involved and passionate about the work we do."
