Conexus Credit Union is warning Saskatchewan residents of a scam where fraudsters are calling and texting Saskatchewan numbers pretending to be Conexus.
In a release, the organization states that it has become aware of an increase in fraudulent calls and text messages. It also notes that scams mimicking financial institutions increase during the holiday season.
Conexus provides the following information to protect yourself and loved ones. It advises members to stay vigilant and watch out for the following things during this holiday season:
• Were you expecting a call? When in doubt, hang up and visit a branch or call the Conexus Member Contact Centre at 1-800-667-7477.
• Conexus does not ask for your banking credentials, such as your password or a one-time password. Hang up immediately if someone asks for these details.
• Conexus does not conduct banking transactions through text message.
• Be wary of links in text messages or emails. If in doubt, go directly to the source instead of clicking on the link.
• Fraudsters use scare tactics to create a sense of urgency. Pay attention to methods intended to create panic.
Here are some tips to proactively protect yourself:
• Set up security alerts. You'll get a text or email message when there is suspicious activity on your online banking accounts.
• Create long, strong passwords. Never reuse passwords.
• Don’t search for the Conexus website using a web browser – save and use a bookmark instead or simply type in www.conexus.ca in the address bar.
• Share this information with your friends and family to help protect them.
