With one of the largest memberships and most active lodges in western Canada, the Muenster Elks met challenges and leaned into helping individuals and organizations throughout the region in their 50th year.

“We had a fantastic year,” said Exalted Ruler Gord Kiefer.” We celebrated our 50th anniversary as an Elks chapter. We have a tremendous group and we’ve seen great support from Muenster and the area.”

Of course, the dollars for dispersal come from a variety of Elks sponsored events. The always popular Elks Steak Supper has had even more support with improvements to the Community Hall that allow upstairs seating and transport between floors via elevator.

The Hockey Draft draws playoff enthusiasts for miles around for a good time and another key fundraiser.

For almost 50 years, the Club 200 lottery has generated funds and spread some of the wealth to lucky winners throughout the year.

It’s all in aid of supporting community groups, agencies and individuals with everything from personal needs, medical emergencies, and facilities fundraising. One of this year’s major beneficiaries has been the Muenster Cooperative Daycare Centre. With the go-ahead for construction, the much-needed facility is working its way toward critical targets, and the Muenster Elks are backing them all the way.

A unique summer project was the construction of a covered shed at the back of the Community Hall as an outdoor space to shelter barbecues and the grill chefs for community events. The feature will also serve as a summer outdoor sitting area for ball tournaments at nearby James Korte Field.

Each year, dollars are sent to the Elks Royal Purple Fund that returns the money to lodges who request assistance for families in need, especially when it comes to hearing health.

One of the highlights of the year came at the 50th anniversary celebration where two of the original charter members, Emil Vedress and Wilbert “Chubby” Wassermann received honours and their 50-year membership pins.

A new crop of Elks, many carrying on a family tradition, have enlisted to serve and bolster the ranks. With the wisdom of the elders and the energy of the youth, the Muenster Elks Lodge eagerly embarks on the next 50 years.
