While it'll certainly be a white Christmas Environment Canada says we may also see an especially warm one.

Environment Canada says that the southeast saw quite the system overnight, with that leaving high amounts of snowfall.

That stretched across mainly the southern area, though areas as far north as North Battlefords also saw a decent pile of snow.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Danielle Desjardins says while they don't have a report for Estevan, the surrounding areas paint a picture for the southeast.

"I do have one from Regina, 14 centimetres in Regina. There was another report of five, but as the snow was blowing around, it can be quite difficult to go out and get a measurement. So a report of five and a report of 14 from Regina, 7.6 centimeters in Maryfield."

Outside of the southeast reports are also sparse with just a couple coming in with different results.

"the other regions are not really close to the southeast corner, about 6.1 in North Battleford and one news outlet said about 20 centimeters in Swift Current."

With so much wind blowing that snow around all night long, Desjardins says it's difficult to PIN DOWN A DIRECT REPORT.

"Take that with a little bit of a grain of salt. With the drift, you really need an untouched surface that hasn't been affected by the wind to get a really accurate measurement."

Desjardins says that right now it looks like some unseasonable warmth will be breaking through the conditions following the weekend to bring a warm Christmas.

"Over the next couple days, we do have a very much weaker impulse tracking through kind of south and central Saskatchewan, giving a couple more centimetres of snow, not really expecting a whole lot out of that. But that's the only other significant precipitation we're seeing leading up to Christmas."

"After that, the temperatures look to be warming up, looking even to possibly reach 0 just ahead of Christmas. So much warmer than we've been seeing and much warmer than the normals for this year."

Desjardins warns that before that we'll see some very chilly temperatures over the next couple of days and avises people to dress appropriately.
