The Ponoka RCMP has issued a report on some of the calls received between Nov. 23 and Dec. 15.

Here are the calls:

Nov. 23 - The Ponoka RCMP responded to a report of an intoxicated male, wearing all black, stumbling down the middle of Highway 2A southbound near the Prairie Boys car wash. Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the wanderer.

Nov. 28 - A parked vehicle at the Ponoka arena was broken into and a purse was removed. The suspect then attempted to withdraw money from an ATM but was unsuccessful. The purse was recovered by a local business and turned into the Ponoka RCMP.

Nov. 30 - Fraud scams continue to plague Ponoka Citizens. The Ponoka RCMP reminds residents to be vigilant when dealing with anyone over the phone, the internet, or any other method of communication. If it costs money to get money back, it’s a scam. If the payment is accepted in Cryptocurrency or iTunes cards or anything similar, it’s a scam. Fraudsters will lure the victim in by creating the illusion that they just e-transferred or sent you a sum of money. The money received you will not be able to retain as these funds are sent fraudulently.  Watch for consistent grammar and spelling errors as this is also a red flag.

Dec. 3 - Police responded to a report of a female passed out in the driver’s seat of a white SUV parked on 67 Street. Members attended and had to wake the would-be driver from her nap.  Subsequent investigation began, some alcohol and what appears to be illegal drugs were located in the vehicle. The driver was arrested and the vehicle was towed.

Dec. 4 - Staff of the Ponoka Stampede reported a break and enter into a Quonset on the Stampede grounds. An older model Chevy truck, a John Deer side-by-side, and some miscellaneous tools were taken from the building.  The truck was recovered burned, and the side-by-side was recovered undamaged. The file is still under investigation.

Dec. 10 – The Ponoka RCMP were alerted by staff from the Cash Box Pawn Shop of a male who had just attempted to pawn a stolen chainsaw. When confronted by staff the male ran out of the store and left in an older model, white, extended-cab Chevy truck. Members patrolled and located the vehicle behind the Leland Bar. When police approached the vehicle, the male suspect exited the truck and proceeded to run from the police. The officer pursued the suspect on foot, and he was quickly apprehended.  The male was charged with Possession of Stolen Property and Obstruction.

Dec. 14 - An observant Ponoka citizen reported a sighting of a possible stolen vehicle that was parked in front of his residence. The citizen reported observing a male and female exiting the vehicle and walking away. Members attended and confirmed that the truck was in fact stolen. The investigation led to the arrest and charges against a Ponoka resident.

Dec. 15 – Ponoka RCMP and Fire Rescue responded to a report of a vehicle stuck on the train tracks on the north end of Ponoka. Members attended and upon arrival found that another vehicle had pushed the vehicle to safety. The vehicle had broken down right over the train tracks.
