A new expansion to Regina's airport could mean that travellers will spend less time on connecting flights and more getting to where they want to go during their vacations.
Earlier this week, the Government of Saskatchewan, Regina Airport Authority, and United Airlines announced that they would now offer daily flights to Denver.
These flights would mean that travellers from Regina can now go straight to the airport rather than having to get a connecting flight, which might go to Toronto, Calgary, or other locations.
Denise Taylor, a local Travel Advisor with Travel Only, praises the move, saying it will be great for Saskatchewan vacation-goers.
"It's actually very good for Regina Airport and we do need flights to go into the United States from Saskatchewan. Denver is a big hub for flights to be entering, so it will benefit us and it will benefit Regina Airport."
"It will open avenues for people to go, especially travelling to the US, it will downplay going through Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver."
Taylor says that trips into the US will see a smoother experience with the new flights though Denver still isn't the ideal.
"Not everybody's going to the US and if you are looking at doing a south holiday like Cancun, Punta Cana, going through Denver's not going to be the ideal because everybody wants a direct flight. So going through Denver, it's not a direct flight."
"If you're looking at going to Florida or someplace in the US, it will benefit, but going into either Europe or to a hot destination, no it won't benefit us.
Taylor hopes to see more direct flights being announced in the future, especially to popular vacation spots.
The flights are expected to begin in the May of 2025.
