An outstanding performance in goal and some timely scoring were the difference as the Portage Terriers took down the Winnipeg Freeze 3-0 in their final game before the Christmas break.
A couple of penalties were all that would hit the scoresheet in the first period, as Portage's powerplay put several good chances to the net, but were unable to capitalize. The shots were 14-3 for Portage but the score remained 0-0 after 20 minutes.
The Terrier powerplay would come through in the second period though, as Nolan Nenow sent a perfect pass to Cam Bullinger who hammered home his 13th of the season.
Bullinger comments on his chemistry with Nenow.
"We're buddies off and on the ice, so it makes it easy. Chemistry, it comes easy for us. It's been good."
Koy Funk would add a goal near the halfway mark the the period. A rush would lead to another cross-ice pass from Tristan Gravenor to Funk, who shot five-hole and scored is tenth goal of the season. 2-0 Portage after the second period.
Caleb Lepitre would add a goal in the third period to make it 3-0, where it would stay.
Mitchell Kathler stopped all 21 shots he faced, earning his fourth shutout of the season.
The Portage Terriers will now take a two-week break before facing the Freeze again on January 4, 2025.
