Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Lacombe & District exceeded its goal of raising $10,000 during its 14th annual Festival of Wreaths.
A total of 52 wreaths were put up for auction this year, bringing in a total of $10,360 for the non-profit organization. Bidding wrapped up on Dec. 16.
Executive Director Brianna Berthiaume notes many of the wreaths were given as gifts for Christmas.
"The Festival of Wreaths is very unique as each business or individual gets to put that personal touch with merchandise and creativity to represent themselves or their business and put them on display for the community to see," she said. "It's in support of mentoring, so it's just that collaboration between us as a non-profit and charity to support youth and families in our community and these businesses that really get in the spirit of giving, especially during the holiday season. I think it really brings the community together in so many different ways. If you're purchasing or bidding on items as well if you're crafting those wreaths for us, it's truly brilliant."
Money raised goes directly back into mentoring programs.
BBBS of Lacombe & District currently has about 35 youth waiting for a mentor.
