Saskatchewan United Party leader and candidate in Lumsden-Morse Jon Hromek announced on Tuesday that he is resigning as leader and stepping away from the party.

Hromek’s Sask United Party finished third in the 2024 Provincial Election, winning only 3.9 per cent of the votes and no seats in the legislature.

While Hromek did not state why he was stepping down, he did say in a written statement that the decision was not made lightly.

“This decision was not made lightly. I have spent countless hours listening to you—at town halls, on doorsteps, and in the streets. Your voices, your stories, and your hopes for our province have inspired me deeply,” he said in the statement.

He added that the results of the provincial election showed “a growing desire for change among the people of Saskatchewan.”

Hromek was also the Sask United Party’s candidate in the Lumsden-Morse riding, where he finished in third with 1,371, behind incumbent Blaine McLeod of the Saskatchewan Party and Chauntel Baudu of the NDP.

In a statement, president of the Saskatchewan United Party Dwight Bunyan thanked Hromek for his service.

“His leadership and vision will have a lasting impact on this party and the province,” Bunyan said.

Bunyan added that further statements will be made in the coming weeks.
