With Canada's Prime Minister resigning from his post, the world of federal politics is experiencing quite a shakeup.
Announced this morning, Justin Trudeau will be stepping down from the position when a new leader is elected to lead the Liberal Party.
The change in leadership won't change some people's opinions about the party, explains Souris-Moose Mountain MP Robert Kitchen.
"I think what people have realized is that a lot of wishes and New Year's resolutions are hopes that came true at the beginning of this year with the announcement that was made. I had to hear it from him first, had to make certain that he said it, just to make it clear."
"But people also need to recognize that every Liberal Member of Parliament voted along with him through these past nine years, every Liberal Member of Parliament is still accountable for what has gone on with the out-of-control spending on the out-of-control debt. All of them helped to pass the catch and release bail and house arrest, issues that have caused an increase in violent crimes of 50 per cent."
The current legislative session is grinding to a halt as the government will be prorogued until March 24th, to make time for the leadership race.
Kitchen says they're watching to see what kind of Liberal party comes out of the prorogation.
"Ultimately, with prorogation, the Prime Minister has to come back, whoever that Prime Minister may be will have to come back with a throne speech, which is a confidence vote. And they will make that presentation of the throne speech, and then they will in the Senate and then will come to the house, at which point it will be debated and it's a confidence motion and we'll see where that goes from there."
If the government is defeated after that throne speech Canada would see an immediate federal election.
