The southeast saw some changes in 2024 with events, an election, and more over the year.
In the very southeast corner, the Cannington constituency changed a bit as the province redrew some of its boundaries for the 2024 election.
The re-elected MLA for Cannington Daryl Harrison talked about bringing in some new communities under his umbrella.
"It was a good year, of course, leading into the election was kind of the top item on the agenda, we had expanded boundaries with the constituency realignment and so I got to include Kipling and Kennedy in my consistency area."
During that election, Harrison says he saw plenty of excitement in the community.
"It was good, you know, certainly excited to hit the campaign trail. My NDP competitor was the same as last time and had a new party involved as well, but it all went very well. You know, had a great reception all around the consistency."
One big moment for the area was a tour the Premier took just before that election, with Harrison saying he was proud to show off the area.
"The highlight I'd like to touch on is the premiers visit in late summer, early fall, able to tour around from meeting with the town of Stoughton and the RM of Tecumseh to kick off our day-long tour. Then we were stopped at E. Bourassa and Son's in Carlyle. They celebrated their 100th anniversary of being in business."
"Then we went down to Southeast Butcher Block just South of Alameda and seeing their newly opened operation and it was great to see all the hard work and dedication with Southeast Butcher Block come to fruition and open and start processing beef and bison."
Difficulties over the year included some of the usual highway repairs needed for the area, with healthcare officials also being needed in a few communities.
Harrison says he hopes to see a great growing season in 2025 to help out all of the producers, including himself.
