The Estevan Police Service responded to various incidents from January 3 to January 6, including cases of animal cruelty, criminal harassment, fraud, and traffic violations, with several matters still under investigation.
On January 3, police received a report from a local business, obtaining a statement and surveillance footage to assist in the ongoing investigation. Officers also responded to the north side of the city after receiving a report of an injured animal. A man was charged with injuring or endangering the animal and was released with a court date set for February.
That same day, a semi-truck driver was charged under the Traffic Safety Act for passing vehicles unsafely near Estevan after members located the vehicle and confirmed the dangerous driving behavior.
On January 4, police received reports of criminal harassment, including unwanted text messages, and a barking dog complaint under the city’s bylaw. All matters remain under investigation. Officers also responded to a suspicious vehicle on the east side of the city. The driver was located and found to be dropping off passengers, with no criminal activity involved.
On January 5, officers attended an unsecure residence that was found vacant and for sale. Police secured the property and contacted the associated real estate agent.
On January 6, two Estevan residents were charged with fraudulently obtaining lodging and released on conditions. They will appear in Estevan Provincial Court at a later date. In another case, a Sedley man with outstanding warrants for assault and property mischief was contacted by police. However, further investigation revealed that the Regina Police Service had executed the warrants earlier. The man is scheduled to appear in Weyburn Provincial Court.
