The City of Estevan has released its budget ahead of 2025, looking at what kind of costs and revenues might be coming next year.

From the General Operations Fund, revenue is expected to be $27,721,021, up from 2024's budget.

The general operating expenditures will be $26,229,959, above the number in the 2024 budget for a total net fund as available for capital projects of $1,491,061.

The Utility Operations Fund revenues meanwhile are in the budget at $6,378,496, a slight decrease from the 2024 budget.

The expenditures in that category are at $5,253,717, representing an increase from 2024's budget for a fund as available for capital projects of $1,124,779.

While the total surplus for the 2025 budget initially comes out to $2,615,841, projected capital costs of $4,133,000 mean that borrowing an amount to the tune of $1,517,159 will be required.

At the same time, the city is looking at a net long-term debt reduction of $1,011,169.

However, the above numbers do not include a provision for potential 2025 loan costs.

As well, the city proposed a 2 per cent tax increase in order to accommodate rising costs, which they believe will provide approximately $320,000 to the budget.

The council will not be approving the administration's budget until after their engagement process, with some public engagement dates being announced in the future.

They will reconvene to discuss the budget on February 10th, with a package to be sent out either later this week or early next week.
