The Lacombe Police Service (LPS) is investigating vandalism that caused Internet interruptions throughout the community on Jan. 7.

Early Tuesday morning, LPS received a call from a resident regarding property damage.

It was later confirmed by crews that the service outage was due to a fibre cut caused by vandalism, affecting homes and businesses in Lacombe.

“We originally thought there were numerous locations hit, but we only had one location where this individual went after a product that doesn't have any value,” said James Cowan, LPS Sergeant. “It was unfortunate that they hit where they did. It caused a lot of disruptions for our community; those lines they got were important.”

LPS is now seeking the public's assistance in locating anyone with home video surveillance of the suspect.

Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the LPS detachment at 403-782-3279, or Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous.
