The Estevan Public Youth Centre opened its doors for 2025 this year with an Olympics event at its 6th Street location.
The event had a number of activities and stations for kids to compete at, with the Eagle Sky Estevan Bruins showing up to also take part.
Some of the other visitors included the city's mayor and councillors, along with MLA Lori Carr who lit the torch to open the games.
That was followed up by multiple game stations which teams swapped through during the evening.
Co-Executive Director Maisy Daoust says that the event was planned as a group effort among EPYC.
"This event was brought forth by a board member named Karen. I actually haven't met Karen yet cause I'm so new. She brought it forward, she asked the association and in the midst of all that, they kind of have this a bit event planned beforehand and then me and my co-director got kind of shoulder tapped."
Daoust worked with her co-executive director Bonnie Kvamme on their first project, though Kvamme wasn't able to be at the event.
"We kind of took over the event and started planning some of the things and connecting. We're very new here, so we're still figuring out a lot about the centre, even just on the level of getting familiar with things, but we are excited."
After their first event of the year, Daoust says they're planning to have a packed January.
"This is our grand reopening and then from here on out, we are hoping to have programming every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, basically while we are open, we plan to stay open if we can still have the proper amount of funding and donations and communal support."
Daoust says it's important for the community to have a resource like EPYC and she says she's looking forward to holding a number of events.
