Fog coated Estevn to start up an active weekend.

The southeast was eased into the weekend by above-average temperatures, but the current forecast is calling for a few days of wild weather.

That began this morning, with a heavy fog draping itself over the southeast.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Stephen Berg talks about the fog and why we're seeing that headed into the weekend.

"It's from the warm front approaching. You will get some warmer air aloft with some cooler air down at the surface with quite a bit of moisture or humidity near the surface. So that's allowing for some fog formation in the valley especially."

"That's fairly widespread, extends all the way from Estevan and the border regions up to towards Regina and a little bit further towards the Northwest and it looks like it'll last for most of the morning."

While the fog is fairly intense, Berg says that it's not quite widespread enough for a fog advisory to be issued.

The southeast will deal with a healthy amount of snowfall overnight which will be the next hurdle for the weekend.

"Tonight snowfall is looking like anywhere from about four to 8 centimetres. The slow is combined with the winds that are coming on the backside. There might be some drifting snow on the highways so people would need to make sure that they're careful when they're driving around. I think that's the biggest takeaway from this situation."

The weekend will end with another bit of harsh weather as temperatures will drop once the storm moves out on Saturday.

"On the backside of this front that's moving eastward through Saskatchewan, there's a cold front that allows for temperatures to drop quite a bit and getting some northwest winds of 30 gusting to 50 kilometres per hour tomorrow, so it'll be bringing some pretty chilly temperatures and you end up with a low tomorrow night at about -20 with temperatures barely recovering on Sunday."

Berg says that the front will last into Monday, with more above-average temperatures expected for the middle of the week.
