January 10th is the trade deadline day for the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) which includes the SJHL and the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings. Teams have until 5:00 P.M. to submit and conduct trades before they close for the remainder of the 2024-2025 season. After the deadline passes, teams and roster must be reduced to a maximum of 25 players.
Teams will be conducting a flurry of moves to set their rosters and lineups for the remainder of the season, as most teams now have roughly 20 games remaining before playoffs.
The Weyburn Red Wings have conducted a few transactions as of late, including trading a Player Development Fee to the Notre Dame Hounds for a 2nd round draft pick in the 2025 SJHL Draft (2010-born player). Most notably, the Red Wings traded veteran goaltender Dazza Mitchell alongside a 2nd round pick in 2025 to the Humboldt Broncos in exchange for 2005-born forward Josh Sale and 2005-born goaltender Ty Matonovich at the start of the week.
You can find more information about all transactions throughout the SJHL on their website. Specific information about the Red Wings can be found on their website as well as their social media platforms.
The Red Wings are set to take the ice tomorrow when they host the Notre Dame Hounds at Crescent Point Place starting at 7:00 P.M.
