This week's Airdrie Techmation Thunder Spotlight belongs to Tyson Sandhu.
The Thunder wrapped up a busy weekend with one win and two losses. On Friday, they dominated the Ponoka Stampeders with a decisive 7-1 victory. However, Saturday saw a tough overtime loss to the Three Hills Thrashers, falling 6-5. They closed out the weekend with a 3-1 defeat against the Rocky Rams. The Thunder now hold a record of 14-14-2.
Head Coach and General Manager Mark Kulynych was pleased with how he played over the weekend.
"Tough weekend for us getting three out of a possible six points, Tyson Sandhu had a great weekend. Sandy had a couple of goals this weekend that were big. He tied the game with .39 seconds left on Saturday to secure us a point."
He explained Sandhu has been working hard and that it will eventually pay off.
"We hope he can continue putting pucks in the net. Sandy is a great teammate and has been awesome in the room for the guys this year. As we push for playoffs we will need him to keep scoring clutch goals for us."
He finished off by explaining the next few weeks are important for playoff rankings as they play teams that are all fighting for a better spot.
In 30 games played, Sandhu has 14 points, eight goals, and six assists. He talked about what it's like battling for the top spot in their division.
"It's fun being in this spot, last year we were farther behind so it is nice being here."
With the second half of the season underway, he hopes he can pick up his production and help out his teammates
"I kind of fell into a dry spell there before the Christmas break, but I'm starting to pick back up again. If I keep my pace of play up right now, then I'm going to help out the team and help out my linemates a lot."
The Thunder also have three games this week. Today, they are visiting the Sylvan Lake Wranglers. Tomorrow, they host the Mountainview Colts at 8 p.m. at the Ron Ebbesen Arena. On Saturday, they finish off the week by visiting the Red Deer Vipers.
