The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings are riding a four-game winning streak, and the efforts of two players over the past week were recognized by the SJHL on Monday.
Forward Jerome Maharaj was named the SJHL’s Forward of the Week. The 04-born from Edmonton finished last week with five points – all assists – in two games as the Red Wings recorded wins over Yorkton and Notre Dame. So far this season, Maharaj has notched 43 points in 28 games and leads the league in assists with 35.
The other player recognized by the SJHL is blueliner Max Chakrabarti. The first-year Red Wing, originally from Surrey, BC, picked up three assists in two games last week and was named the SJHL’s Defenceman of the Week. Over the course of the campaign, Chakrabarti has scored six goals and added 26 assists. He leads all defencemen in points and leads the league in power play points.
The team itself was also recognized by the CJHL. It was given honourable mentions when the Top 20 teams in Canada list was released Monday. It is the third SJHL team on the list this week, behind the Melfort Mustangs (2) and the Flin Flon Bombers (19).
The Red Wings will be looking to extend their winning streak to five games tonight as they entertain the La Ronge Ice Wolves at Crescent Point Place. This game will be the first of two at home against the Ice Wolves this week.
The puck drops at 7 p.m.
