2025 is a big year for Southeast College as it will ring in its 50th anniversary of bringing education to the Southeast.

The organization joined the Saskatchewan Regional College System 50 years ago, with the college now celebrating the date with events and a new scholarship.

People will be able to see the anniversary as Vice President of Communication and Strategic Enrollment Sheena Onrait says they'll be posting that through the year.

"We've launched a 50th-anniversary logo that we will be using on all of our promotional materials and our website and just all of our communications going forward."

To ring in the anniversary the Southeast College is also offering a special scholarship for one lucky student.

"We have launched a special entrance award. It is $5,050, so 50-50," said Onrait. "The scholarship will be awarded to a post-secondary student starting a new program in the 25-26 academic year."

"Any student who applies for a program between now and the end of May will automatically put their name into the draw and we'll be drawing for that the first week of June in conjunction with our graduation ceremonies throughout the college. So we're really excited to be able to award that scholarship to a student coming to Southeast College in the fall of 2025."

As the year continues people will hear more about the 50th anniversary during the usual events that the Southeast College puts on.

"Along with that, we're obviously keeping with the 50th theme throughout the entire year and integrating it into all of our staff celebrations and all of our community events, any open houses we do, we'll have upcoming postsecondary and career fairs coming this spring. We haven't finalized the date yet, but that'll be coming very, very soon. So it's just kind of a whole year of celebrating the year of 50."

As the new year is starting the Southeast College has a lot to look forward to, with Onrait hoping the current school year continues to be productive.

"Our enrollment has been wonderful this year. We are obviously into kind of the second-half of our academic year, our year runs from July until June, so we're in the second-half of the year. So we're looking forward to continued and steady enrollment across all the programs that we offer here right from our industry and safety programs to our part-time programs to our full-time programs."

"Our ABE, which is adult basic education, has seen an increase in the interest of numbers students this year as well as our English as another language program, enrollments have increased this year as well. So, you know, we're really seeing a great response to our programs throughout all the communities that we serve in Southeast Saskatchewan."
