The warmer temperatures we've been experiencing as of late are coming to an end, at least for a few days.

The high for Friday is around minus 8 with periods of light snow beginning late this afternoon.

The snow is expected to end overnight; in total, we could see between two and four centimetres. The winds will pick up again tonight becoming north gusting to 50 km/h.

Temperatures will dip down to a low of around minus 20 Friday night. The wind chill will make it feel like minus 29 with a risk of frostbite.

"We are expecting a lot colder temperatures for the coming weekend than what we've seen over the last several days," said Environment and Climate Change Canada meteorologist Erin Staunton.

The high for Saturday is minus 20 with the temperature falling to minus 23 in the afternoon. The wind chill is expected to hit minus 33 on Saturday afternoon. The low for Saturday night is around minus 26. Sunday looks about the same with a high of minus 19 and a low of 28.

Temperatures are expected to start warming up again by Monday.

"The cold snap this weekend doesn't look to last very long. Temperatures will probably rebound by early to middle of next week," noted Staunton.

The high for Monday is around minus 13 and then warming back up to minus 2 on Tuesday.

The mercury could inch above zero towards the end of next week.

The normal high for this time of year is around minus 6, with an average overnight low of around minus 18.
