SJHL have announced their rosters and finalized teams for their MJHL/SJHL Showcase upcoming on January 28-29 in Winnipeg, MB. Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings Head Coach and General Manager, Cody Mapes, was announced as the coach for the U20 Gold team earlier this month alongside Melville Millionaires head coach and general manager, Doug Johnson, as Mapes' assistant.
“I always try to surround myself with people that I can learn from, and I think Doug (Johnson) is really that kind of guy,” Mapes said, “I've always loved the way his teams play, the style that he plays and kind of the accountability that he has. I think there's definitely a lot that that I can learn from him and I'm looking forward to spending a couple games and a couple practices with him.”

The Weyburn Red Wings are well represented at the showcase, with forwards Jerome Maharaj, Ethan Dekay, Jaxson Ruthven; defenseman Max Chakrabarti and goaltender Angelo Zol being selected for the U20 Gold Team. Defenseman Simon Martin and forward Turner McIntyre were selected for the U18 Blue team. Mapes talked about the excitement they share for the showcase and how their hard work has been awarded.
“I know they were excited when we told them that seven guys were going. Those guys were pretty excited that our team is that well represented, and you know, hats off to them for their hard work so far this year.”
This is the sixth MJHL/SJHL showcase since its inception back in 2018 in Regina, SK. Over the 30 games played since 2018, the SJHL have a record of 20-9-1 and have outscored the MJHL by 119 to 88.
The SJHL U20 Gold team will face the MJHL U20 Red team on Tuesday, January 28th at 12:00 P.M. and the MJHL U20 Black team on Wednesday, January 29th at 11:00 A.M. The SJHL U18 Blue team will take on the MJHL U18 White team on Tuesday, January 28th at 6:00 P.M. and Wednesday, January 29th at 5:00 P.M. The games will be broadcast live through FloHockey.
