The Estevan Police Service was working hard over the weekend even as an extreme cold gripped the southeast.
They received a number of calls and were out in the community throughout the day.
EPs Sgt. Baden Lonsberry talks about some of the calls they received.
"It was a little bit quieter, I think with the weather the way it was. We had 38 occurrences for the weekend, and seven tickets were issued to drivers. I've got a couple of assault files. One at the local bar and two males ended up being lodged until sober with that one. We had a report of a stolen vehicle out of Moose Jaw that we were looking for, there was also a fire at a local apartment, Estevan Fire Rescue was able to get that extinguished and they will be continuing with their investigation of that."
"A male was reported being defrauded of $350, we received a statement that we're investigating that. We had a male at a local lounge that was intoxicated and unable to pay his tab. We were able to arrange for a family member to pay that tab and pick up the individual. We had one three-day driving suspension issued to a male. The male tested positive on the roadside screening device for drugs, and so he was issued a three-day driving suspension and a blood sample was taken."
Quite the call came in when a truck hit a bridge on the west side of town, with Lonsberry reporting that no permanent damage to the bridge was done.
We also had a report of a semi with an oversized load that struck the bridge on the West side of town. The driver was located and he was issued a ticket for that offence.
"It doesn't appear to have any major damage to it. I think there was just some debris from the load. So there was nothing shut down."
The fire was also relatively minor with Lonsberry saying that it was more smoke than any other complications.
"No injuries again. There was some smoke issues so the building did have to be evacuated for for part of the time. The damage was mostly contained to one apartment."
With the cold weather keeping everyone inside, Lonsberry says it was a good weekend.
"I think the weather definitely had a bit of a factor in there with it being a bit of when people stay in home a bit. But overall it was a pretty good weekend."
