Some extremely cold weather is in the rearview for the southeast, as temperatures are expected to moderate starting today.
Environment Canada recorded those temperatures and compared them with some previous years, as a few areas got close to breaking records.
Meteorologist Chris Stammers says that they didn't quite make the mark in this system.
"It was definitely the coldest air mass of the season so far. So southeastern Saskatchewan saw temperatures down into the mid-minus 30s, Estevan yesterday got down to I think it was -34, so pretty frigid out there, but not record-breaking."
"Most of the records for the Estevan area are kind of around the minus 40s air temperatures. So actually for yesterday, the air temperature at the record was minus 42.2 in 1954. Not really even close to record-breaking, but still pretty cold."
Stammers says that's the same for all other locales across the southeast.
People will have something to look forward to as temperatures being to rise over this week.
"The good news is the cold is on its way out already. Temperatures are currently around -17 in Estevan and we are on our way up to a high of about -4 today and a little bit of snow is expected later today and tonight, but not really looking at too much in terms of accumulation. Some gusty winds, though, so there could be some blowing snow this afternoon and tonight across the South."
