The Cochrane Public Library is set to take visitors on a magical "Journey to Narnia" this Saturday, as part of its 75th anniversary celebration. This free event promises a whimsical experience for families and fans of the beloved C.S. Lewis series.
“We’re celebrating 75 years of library magic, and what better way to do that than with a journey to Narnia?” said Carmen Erison, the library’s program and engagement manager. “This event also aligns with Family Literacy Day, which is all about coming together as a family to celebrate reading.”
The event will feature a variety of activities from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., starting with a special storytelling session led by Betty Herzberger, a seasoned storyteller and former educator.
“Betty has been storytelling for over 43 years, and she’s fantastic at bringing stories to life,” said Erison.

Throughout the afternoon, families can enjoy themed craft stations, scavenger hunts, and even a sound scavenger hunt, featuring the creatures of Narnia. The library will be transformed into a winter wonderland, complete with the iconic lamppost and wardrobe entrance from the Narnia stories.
“This event is truly for everyone,” Erison emphasized. “Whether you’re young or just young at heart, you’re welcome to join us. And if you need a quiet space, we’ll have our boardroom designated for that.”
The library is encouraging voluntary registration to help manage attendance, but walk-ins are welcome. Alongside the Narnia fun, there will also be live music performances by the Cochrane Drum Tutor and a pop-up book sale for the Friend's of the Library.
“It’s going to be a magical day,” Erison added. “We can’t wait to welcome everyone to celebrate our 75th anniversary with this incredible tribute to Narnia.”
