The SaskTel Tankard officially kicked off at noon today, as the stones are now officially sliding at the dual men's and women's curling provincials in Kindersley.
Matt Lang, the lead for Team Thomas, shared one of the perks of a dual event.
"It was nice to see the ladies play this morning and get an idea of what the ice was going to look like." said Lang, as the Thomas rink used that pre-scouting on route to a 6-2 win over Team Jacobson.
Matching the women's draws this morning, two of the four opening draws were decided by only one point. Team Knapp and Team Kalthoff went back and forth through the first six ends, before the Knapp crew took the lead with consecutive points in the seventh and eighth. A blank ninth end set up a must-score for Team Kalthoff in the tenth, but the eventual single wasn't enough as the teams entered an extra end, and Team Knapp came out on top.

Team Kleiter and Team Moser didn't need extra ends but played to just as close of a finish. Team Moser had a 3-1 lead through three ends, before Kleiter's group reeled off consecutive points to tie it 3-3. Team Moser took the lead back in the seventh, only to lose it in the eighth. The Saskatoon based team fought back again with two points in the ninth to take the lead, but Team Kleiter used two of their own in the final end to earn the 7-6 win.
Team Laycock beat Team Ede 10-2 in the fourth matchup. Team Laycock had three ends with multiple points, as the two sides shook hands after nine ends.
