Those interested in relaying information from the fields to the masses can sign up to be a Volunteer Crop Reporter. Every year, producers, agrologists, and those simply interested in agriculture can sign up to be a volunteer crop reporter to help improve the quality of the weekly crop reports that the Ministry of Agriculture puts out. Tyce Masich, Crop Extension Specialist with the Ministry of Agriculture recommends it to anyone interested.

“If you’re interested in providing updates on growing conditions in your area, I highly recommend you sign up to become a Volunteer Crop Reporter in 2025. You can do that through the Government of Saskatchewan website or by calling the Agriculture Knowledge Centre at 1-866-457-2377.”

The Ministry of Agriculture relies on these volunteer crop reporters to provide accurate information within their area every week through a survey. Reporters are knowledge within their area, talking with fellow producers or neighbours to find out what is going on in that week in agriculture.

There are currently over 200 volunteer crop reporters in Saskatchewan with many working for multiple decades, including in 2015 when three reporters reached 40 years of providing information.

Those interested in becoming a Volunteer Crop Reporter or would like more information regarding it, are encouraged to visit the Government of Saskatchewan and Ministry of Agriculture’s website, emailing the Agriculture Knowledge Centre at cropreport@gov.sk.ca, or give them a call toll-free at 1-866-457-2377.
